We're screwed...

Well as most of you have probably heard Ireland is getting a bail out. the final figure hasnt been released but its anywhere from €80 billion and up (probably over 100 billion) This is due largely to the government's decision to bail out the banks that loaned out too much to people who could never pay it back and then when the economy slowed down they lost their jobs making it even worse. So now everyone who didn't do anything wrong has to pay for the mistakes of the bankers who loaned out too much and the people who took loans they could never pay.

I have to try get a decent education and a job in this situation over the next 5 years to my life if i don't move elsewhere. What does everyone think about this situation? Are you happy that your country may be sending money to Ireland to allow it to continue running?

*edit* Eu countries are paying through the eu. the uk and sweeden are planning to give money through a different way outside of the eu, but this is controversial.

  2. sounds alright. What kind of world would we be living in if we didn't help out other nations that were on the brink of collapse. I don't condone what was done to bring the nation to such an economic state, but it's good to know that when mistakes are made, other countries can lend a helping hand. I highly doubt this is just free money either. It's not like they're just handing over 80 billion. Ireland will probably be paying it back.

  5. The media and politicians have made it so we think we have to save the banks and screw the people the banks destroyed.

  6. That cash figure is about the amount that individual American corporations get bailed out by. These bailouts are a massive waste.

  7. I never really liked the idea of paying for other peoples mistakes.
But then again, we should help out each other once in a while.

  9. This stuff annoys me. I am not an economist so I don't claim to know anything about what's happening in Europe in the financial departments.

But sadly, the rest of the world is full of economists and everyone is just ranting on about what THEY think the consequences will be. And they are all yelling different things.

If you are not an expert on something, just let the ones who are experts handle it.
